The Calp Town Hall has installed a new artistic railing entitled “Love of the Sea… Love,” a work by the artist Toni Marí. The installation is located on Cronista Pedro Pastor Pastor Street, offering views of Arenal-Bol Beach.
While the first railing designed by Toni Marí and installed on La Fossa Beach was a tribute to Calp's connection to the sea and the fishing industry, the new installation pays homage to the town's traditional festivals, as well as Calp's most iconic landmarks, such as the Peñón de Ifach (rock), the church and chapels, the Banys de la Reina (Queen's Baths), Casa Nova, and the Bofill buildings. Thus, the railing depicts the Moors and Christians festival, the Bous al Carrer (bull runs), Calp's Holy Week celebrations, and the town's most emblematic buildings.
The mayor of Calp, Ana Sala, inaugurated this 54-meter-long railing this morning. Made of galvanized iron and powder-coated, the railing is a testament to the town's rich history. The mayor thanked everyone involved for their collaboration in bringing the project to fruition. Both projects, the railing at La Fossa and the one on Pedro Pastor Street, had a combined cost of approximately €42,000.
The event was attended by Toni Marí, an artist from Xàbia, and Joaquín Roselló, a resident of Calp, who created some of the text at the base of the railing. Toni Marí explained that he had tried to capture the essence of Calp in this railing, so that "people who see it can identify with it and connect it to the sea, the Peñón de Ifach, archaeology, the festivals... it's a tribute to the festivals, to Calp in general."
