Calp has been awarded the "Más Bici 2026" seal, a recognition granted by La Vuelta, the organizer of the Spanish cycling tour, which evaluates and rewards municipalities' genuine commitment to the daily use of bicycles. Calp thus joins a list of 18 new municipalities which, together with the five that already received the award in 2025, form a network of 23 towns and cities that champion active mobility in Spain.
The "Más Bici" seal, promoted within the framework of the social commitment program 'La Vuelta es Más' (La Vuelta is More), is a distinction awarded through a rigorous evaluation process in five key areas: governance, infrastructure, services and education, sport, and tourism. A jury composed of experts from the Network of Cities and Territories for Cycling (RedBici) and the international consultancy Copenhagenize analyzed the applications to identify best practices and, above all, detect opportunities for improvement, fostering shared learning among the participating regions.
The evaluation report states that “Calp demonstrates clear potential for active mobility thanks to the cross-cutting nature of its Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) and its consolidated Smart Tourist Destination (STD) strategy. Although its urban layout may limit infrastructure deployment, its high level of specialization in international competitive cycling places the municipality in a privileged position. The key challenge is balancing the success of elite tourism with everyday bicycle use.”
The “Más Bici” (More Bike) seal was developed in collaboration with cycling mobility experts with a constructive and positive approach. Its objective is to recognize the effort and commitment of local governments to promoting cycling.
The list of the 18 new award-winning municipalities reflects the geographical and demographic diversity of Spain, mirroring the Vuelta a España itself. Along with Cartagena, the seal was awarded to Benasque (Huesca); Benidorm, Castalla, Cartagena, Orihuela, Torrevieja, and Villena (Alicante); and Capileira (Granada). Ares del Maestrat, Castellón de la Plana and Lucena del Cid (Castellón); Guijuelo (Salamanca); A Coruña, Somiedo (Asturias); Valdeolmos-Alalpardo (Madrid); Villadiego (Burgos) and Vitoria-Gasteiz (Álava).
