This bronze piece has appeared during the execution of the works that the MARQ is carrying out in the Pobla de Ifach.

We have preserved the main applique, decorated with a fantastic animal, half-bird, half-mammal, which we have identified as a basilisk.

This legendary animal was greatly feared for its harmful effects: it exhaled fiery flames from its mouth and people could die by simply looking at it.

In the medieval world it appeared on church capitals to frighten the faithful with the horrors of hell. It can also be found on ivory carvings and applied arts, as in this exceptional buckle found in Ifach.
