The main buildings of medieval European cities display stonemasonry markings.

Always visible to the human eye, they serve as the signature of the author who worked the stone. The mark indicates the personal responsibility of the master stonemason for the work carried out and is a guarantee of the quality of his work vis-à-vis the master builder.

The marks are as numerous as the active stonemasons’ workshops. At Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles de Ifach, a total of 6 different marks have been identified so far, the cruciform ones being the most important.

The stonemason’s marks documented on the walls of the roofs of the church provide a wealth of information on the construction sections of the general work. They confirm that different groups of stonemasons worked on each of them, which confirms the quality and solidity of the building.
