During the 2008 campaign, an interesting metal object was found in the medieval necropolis of Ifach, and this turned out to be a piece of lead with an Islamic inscription, the first with Islamic writing to appear in the territory of Calp.

The object is a rectangular-shaped lead plate, currently folded in half, but with signs of having possibly been folded in the form of a triptych.

The outer face is covered with Arabic inscriptions, while the inner face appears to have been anepigraphic and undecorated.

These objects are usually classified as “amulets” or “talismans”, functioning as individual protectors against any evil or adversity.

They date from the Almohad period or slightly later, between the second half of the 12th century and the 13th century.
